Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Head of Cultural Heritage Department, Mahir Polat, mentions Istanbul City Museum among the other museum projects of Istanbul. Polat stated that the Istanbul City Museum is a special project for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, since the museum focuses on social history and memory, through stories and human experiences, to create an open atmosphere encouraging its visitors to re-think the meaning of being an Istanbulite and create new memory sources for their stories and experiences about the city of Istanbul.
